Petersen House

Petersen House is a 19th-century federal-style row house located at 516 10th Street in Washington DC. The house was built in 1849 by the German tailor William A. Petersen, and Vice President and future Confederate general John C. Breckinridge rented the house in 1852. In 1865, while serving as a boarding house, the Petersen House was used by doctors Charles Leale and Charles Sabin Taft for the treatment of Abraham Lincoln's fatal gunshot wound received on the night of 14 April at neighboring Ford's Theatre. Lincoln died at Petersen House at 7:22 AM on 15 April 1865. In 1933, the National Park Service transformed Petersen House into a historical museum, free to the public while requiring timed tickets.
