Petersburg National Battlefield

Petersburg National Battlefield is an American national park centered on the city of Petersburg, Virginia and in neighboring Hopewell, Prince George County, and Dinwiddie County. The national park was established on 3 July 1926 to commemorate the Siege of Petersburg during the American Civil War, and it included the Union general-in-chief Ulysses S. Grant's headquarters at City Point in Hopewell, "Eastern Front Visitor Center" at the site of Battery 5 on the former Dimmock Line, as well as a motor tour which included Fort Friend, Battery 9, Harrison's Creek, Fort Stedman, Fort Haskell, Fort Morton, and The Crater. The battlefield also stretched into Dinwiddie County, the site of the Five Forks battlefield. The National Park Service recorded 213,261 visitors to the park in 2011.
