Peter Sailly

Peter Sailly (20 April 1754 – 16 March 1826) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-NY 11) from 1805 to 1807, succeeding Beriah Palmer and preceding John Thompson.

Biography[]

Peter Sailly was born and educated in Lorraine, France, and he immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1783 and later settled in Plattsburgh, New York. He became a storeowner, a lumber businessman, a fur trader, and a potash manufacturer, and he served as an associate justice of the Court of Common Pleas from 1788 to 1796 before entering local politics. Sailly went on to serve in the US House of Representatives from 1805 to 1807, and he served as US Collector of Customs in Plattsburgh from 1807 until his death in 1826.
