Peter Hofbauer

Peter Hofbauer (1895-1938) was a German factory worker and Red Front Fighters League member. Born in Berlin, Hofbauer served in the Imperial German Army during World War I and was wounded at the Battle of Courtrai in 1918. After the war, he joined the USPD and then the Communist Party of Germany, and he joined the Rotfront in order to fight against the Nazi Party's Sturmabteilung (SA) paramilitary. In 1929, however, he and his local unit went over to the SA after the Rotfront was banned, and he carried on his anti-capitalist struggle with the national socialist cause. He was imprisoned at Dachau after the Night of the Long Knives purge in 1934, and he died there in 1938.
