Peter Hitchcock

Peter Hitchcock (19 October 1781 – 4 March 1853) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-OH 6) from 4 March 1817 to 3 March 1819, succeeding David Clendenin and preceding John Sloane.

Biography[]

Peter Hitchcock was born in Cheshire, Connecticut in 1781, and he became a lawyer in 1804 and moved to Burton, Ohio in 1806. He became a renowned and attention-grabbing lawyer, and he served in the State House in 1810, in the State Senate from 1812 to 1815, in the US House of Representatives from 1817 to 1819, as a judge of the State Supreme Court from 1819 to 1847 (21 of those years as Chief Justice), and as an 1844 Henry Clay presidential elector. He died in 1853.
