The Perugine Restorationists was a reactionary political party that existed in the short-lived Perugine Republic from February to March 1872. Led by Pietro Figa, the Restorationists dominated the single-party presidential dictatorship, and the Restorationists argued for a state-run economy, the implementation of Catholicism as the state religion, Italian nationalism, and opposition to a large military. Figa was a devout populist and Catholic who gained the support of the people, and he made it his intention to re-create the Papal States as a republic. However, the Royal Italian Army was dispatched to crush the Perugine Revolution due to the threat that it posed to Italian unification, and the republic was destroyed after a month-long campaign.
