Pera Palace Hotel

The Pera Palace Hotel is a historic museum hotel located in the Beyoglu (Pera) district of Istanbul, Turkey. The hotel was built in 1892 with the purpose of hosting passengers of the Orient Express from London to Istanbul, and it was branded "the oldest European hotel of Turkey", becoming home to Turkey's first and Europe's second electric elevator. Turkish nationalist leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stayed at the hotel in 1919 while planning out the Turkish War of Independence, and detective writer Agatha Christie wrote her 1934 novel Murder on the Orient Express while staying in the hotel.
