Pellinore

Pellinore (born 433) was King of Anglesey during the late 5th century AD.

Biography[]

Pellinore was the son of King Pellam of Anglesey. He met King Arthur during their youth, and he befriended Arthur after defeating him in a duel. He became a Knight of the Round Table and helped Arthur defeat his rebellious vassals, but, after killing King Lot in battle at Tarabel, a blood feud erupted between the two families. He later had an affair with Lot's widow and Arthur's half-sister Morgause, but Morgause's son Gaheris caught them in the act and beheaded Morgause, while sparing Pellinore. Pellinore was later slain by Gawain.

According to Derfel Cadarn, Pellinore was born in 433, the son of the Romano-British Christian Caius Servilius. Derfel saw Pellinore as an elderly madman, and he was kept in a cage at Ynys Wydryn (Glastonbury Tor, Somerset) by Merlin, from which he commanded imaginary armies. After Gundleus sacked the Tor, Pellinore was taken to Caer Cadarn by Prince Arthur, but he was sent back to the Tor alongside Nimue and Morgan le Fay after it was rebuilt.
