Pellegrino "Don Grino" Morano (1877-after 1919) was a New York City crime boss and the leader of the Neapolitan Camorra in Brooklyn during the early 20th century.
Biography[]
Pellegrino Morano was born in 1877 in Prata, Campania, Italy, and he permanently settled in the United States in 1912 after previously visiting in 1892. Morano sold stolen horses in Italian Harlem for a living, and he was arrested for murder in 1904. Years later, he moved to Coney Island, Brooklyn, where he became the leader of a Neapolitan street gang, the Camorra. Morano had Little Italy crime boss Giosue Gallucci murdered in May 1915, and he fought over his number rackets with rival mobsters from Sicily, led by Giuseppe Morello. Morello's American Mafia fought against the Camorra in a bloody war, and Morano would be deported back to Italy in 1919 for the murder of Nicholas Terranova three years prior.
