Pedro de Quevedo y Quintano

Pedro de Quevedo y Quintano (1736-1818) was a Spanish cardinal who served as Lord Chief Justice from 1803 to 1814.

Biography[]

Quevedo was named as a bishop in 1776 and founded the Seminary of Ourense in 1803. He was one of five people chosen for the Council of Regency that operated as the executive body of Spain's government during the Peninsular War of 1808-1815, and was also the Grand Inquisitor until the Spanish Inquisition ended. In 1816, he was made a cardinal by Pope Pius VII.
