
Pedro II of Portugal (26 April 1648-9 December 1706) was the King of Portugal from 1683 to 1706. He was lewd and loose, and betrayed Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession when he joined an alliance with Great Britain instead.
Biography[]
Pedro de Braganza was the son of Joao IV of Portugal, and the younger brother of Afonso de Braganza. In 1668 Pedro gained control over his brother and exiled him to the Azores, and in 1683 Pedro gained the throne when his brother died in exile. In 1701 he supported Spain and France in the War of the Spanish Succession but in 1703 he betrayed King Felipe V of Spain for an alliance wth Great Britain. He died in 1706, while the war was being fought.
