Pedro Conde (26 March 1785-26 May 1821) was an Argentine general who served in the Argentine War of Independence.
Biography[]
Pedro Conde was born in Buenos Aires, Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in 1785, and he joined the Spanish Army at the age of 13. He fought against the British invasions of the Rio de la Plata before supporting the May Revolution, participating in the siege of Montevideo, and battling Jose Gervasio Artigas' Federales. In 1814, he was given command of a battalion, and he opposed Carlos Maria de Alvear's government and helped to bring it down. However, he was removed from command by Ignacio Alvarez Thomas for his excessive celebrations. In 1816, he joined the Arym of the Andes and fought at the Battle of Chacabuco before being injured during the siege of Talcahuano. He never recovered from his wounds, and, though he fought at the Battle of Maipu and participated in the expedition to Peru, he died of reopened wounds in Sayan, Peru in 1821.
