
Pedro Aguirre Cerda (6 February 1879-25 November 1941) was President of Chile from 25 December 1938 to 25 November 1941, succeeding Arturo Alessandri and preceding Jeronimo Mendez. He was a member of the Radical Party of Chile.
Biography[]
Pedro Aguirre Cerda was born in Los Andes, Chile on 6 February 1879, and he became a Spanish teacher in 1900, a lawyer in 1904, and later a teacher and, finally, a Radical Party of Chile politician. He served as a senator before winning the 1938 presidential election to succeed Arturo Alessandri. He encouraged economic growth through industrialization, and he died in office in 1941.
