Paweł Jan Sapieha (1609-29 December 1665) was a Polish-Lithuanian nobleman and the Lord of Vilna during the mid-17th century.
Biography[]
Paweł Jan Sapieha was born in 1609, and he became a hussar rittmeister in 1633, a courtier in 1635, Obozny of Lithuania in 1638, Podstoli of Lithuania in 1645, Voivode of Vitebsk Voivodeship in 1646, and Voivode of the Vilnius Voivodeship and Great Hetman on Lithuania in 1656. He fought against the Cossacks at the 1651 Battle of Berestechko, and, during "The Deluge", he drove the Swedes out of Lublin, took part in the siege of Warsaw, captured Tykocin Castle in 1657, and defeated the Russians at the Battle of Polonka in 1660. He died in 1665.
