Paula Ben-Gurion (April 1892-29 January 1968) was the wife of Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion.
Biography[]
Paula Munweis was born in Minsk, Russian Empire in 1892 to a Jewish family, and she immigrated to New York City as a teenager and trained as a nurse in Newark, New Jersey. She worked in a New York gynaecological clinic before meeting her future husband David Ben-Gurion at the home of her employer in 1915. They married in 1917, and Ben-Gurion joined the British Army's Jewish Brigade shortly after; the couple reunited in Jaffa 18 months later. Initially an anti-Zionist anarchist, Ben-Gurion came to learn Hebrew and support the establishment of Israel. She died in 1968.
