Patrick Pizzella (19 May 1954-) was acting US Secretary of Labor from 20 July to 30 September 2019, succeeding Alexander Acosta and preceding Eugene Scalia.
Biography[]
Patrick Pizzella was born in New Rochelle, New York in 1954, and he worked as a field staffer for Ronald Reagan's 1976 Republican presidential campaign and served as an executive director of right-to-work committees in New Mexico and Delaware from 1977 to 1980. He went on to serve in the Reagan White House during the 1980s, including service in the General Services Administration, the Small Business Administration, and the Department of Education. From 1990 to 1995, he served as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Board Office of Administration, and he served in the private sector from 1996 to 2001. In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Pizzella Assistant Secretary of Labor for Administration and Management at the Department of Labor, serving until January 2009. From 2009 to 2013, he owned his own consulting firm, and he served as head of the Federal Labor Relations Authority from 2013 to 2017. On 17 April 2018, he was appointed Deputy Secretary of Labor, serving under Secretary Alexander Acosta. On 12 July 2019, following Acosta's resignation as Secretary of Labor, Pizzella was appointed Acting Secretary, with Trump announcing that he would nominate Eugene Scalia to serve as the new Secretary. Scalia took office on 30 September.
