Patrick Morrisey

Patrick Morrisey (21 December 1967-) was the Attorney General of West Virginia (R) from 14 January 2013 to January 2025 (succeeding Darrell McGraw) and Governor of West Virginia from January 2025 (succeeding Jim Justice).

Biography[]

Patrick Morrisey was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York in 1967, and he grew up in Edison, New Jersey. He opened a private law firm in Westfield, New Jersey in 1992, and he worked as a Washington DC lobbyist from 2004 to 2012. In 2012, he was elected Attorney General of West Virginia, the first Republican to hold the title since 1933. He ran for the US Senate in 2018 and won the Republican nomination, but he lost to Democratic incumbent Joe Manchin, a conservative. He was ultimately elected Governor in 2024.
