Biography[]
Arnolfo was born on 4 July 739 to the House of Dandolo, and in 771 they rose to prominence in the Republic of Venice, replacing the House of Monferrato as one of the five ruling patrician families that vied for power in the merchant republic. On 6 March 774 his plot to assassinate Doge Giovanni of Venice was discovered by Mayor Ezzelino of Jesolo, and Giovanni attempted to have him arrested.
