Biography[]
Patrice Dumas studied at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she became involved with the Black Power movement as president of the black student union. In 1972, Dumas attended Stokely Carmichael's speech at a black nightclub in Colorado Springs, where she met undercover cop Ron Stallworth. The two of them took a liking to each other, although Stallworth was there to observe Carmichael's speech and to discover his plans for the Black Power movement. Dumas was later pulled over while driving Carmichael to his hotel, and she was groped by patrolman Andy Landers, who also threatened Carmichael. She would later go on to date Stallworth, but Stallworth never revealed his undercover status to her. Stallworth and Flip Zimmerman would go on to save her from a Klan bomb plot triggered by her outspoken support for Carmichael; her car was bombed instead of her mailbox, and the Klansmen parked next to her car were killed in the ensuing explosion. Stallworth would later go on to bust Landers for his assault on Dumas, and Stallworth and Dumas discussed their future together after he revealed his undercover status to her. Ultimately, Dumas decided that she could not "sleep with the enemy", even though Stallworth was a black man who had saved her life.
