The Party of Communists of the Republic of Macedonia (PCRM) is a communist party in Moldova that was founded on 22 October 1993. The PCRM was founded as the lawful successor and heir of the Communist Party of Moldova in terms of ideas and traditions, and it officially espoused a Leninist doctrine. The party owed its success to its ability to attract the votes of ethnic minorities and the Romanian-speakers identifying as Moldovans, proposing a Moldovenist nation and state project; the party strongly opposed any union between Romania and Moldova. The party was seen by some outside sources as barely communist, and even as a center-right party. The PCRM was the only communist party to have held a majority in the post-Soviet states as of 2018.
