The Paris Police Prefecture (PP) is a French law enforcement agency that provides police, emergency services, and various administrative services to the populations of Paris and three of its suburban departments. The Lieutenancy General of Police was created by King Louis XIV on 15 March 1667 and was disbanded at the start of the French Revolution in 1789; Napoleon I established the current Prefecture of Police on 17 February 1800. From 1800 to 2021, the PP, as a subdivision of the Ministry of the Interior, provided all emergency services in Paris, but, on 18 October 2021, policing duties in Paris were taken over by the newly-created Paris Municipal Police. By 2022, the PP had 34,000 sworn members serving 87 stations in 15 districts.
