The Paraguayan People's Army (EPP) is a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla organization in Paraguay which was founded in 2008. The EPP originated as the armed wing of the Partido Patria Libre, a far-left political party influenced by Catholic liberation theology. The EPP was formally established in 2008, and it engaged in the kidnappings of businessmen, bankers, ranchers, and Mennonite settlers; staged bombings, arson attacks, and shootings; and established a base in northeastern Paraguay. The group was allied with FARC in Colombia and the FPMR in Chile.
