The Restaurazionisti was a faction of reactionary politicians in the Papal States during the nineteenth century. The Restaurazionisti supported absolutism and were completely opposed to any liberal reforms; their position was the opposite of Pope Pius IX, who was initially sympathetic towards the liberalization of Europe. The Restaurazionisti supported an all-powerful monarchy (absolute power for the Pope), a traditionalist version of Christianity, anti-immigration policies, and isolationism; they were markedly opposed to the liberal-nationalist Risorgimento movement. The Restaurazionisti faction disappeared after Italy annexed the Papal States in 1870.
