The Panzer III was a medium tank developed in 1939 by Nazi Germany. It fought other armored fighting vehicles (AFVs), but its weakness against the Soviet Union T-34 tank led to the development of the Panzer IV tank to compete with the Soviets. 5,774 Panzer IIIs were built during World War II from 1939 to 1943.
