Biography[]
Pandulf of Teano was a distant relative of the ruling dynasty of Capua, but he was loyal to the Holy Roman Emperor, while his relative Pandulf IV of Capua was a Byzantine ally. In 1022, Emperor Henry II invaded southern Italy and deposed Pandulf IV, making Pandulf of Teano "Count Pandulf V of Capua". Pandulf IV's Norman allies, led by Rainulf Drengot, came to Pandulf IV's aid and took Capua in 1026 following an 18-month siege. Pandulf V fled to the court of Duke Sergius IV of Naples, who withstood a Capuan siege from 1026 to 1029; Pandulf of Teano fled to Rome after the siege's end.
