Panayiotis Xenos (465 BC-) was an Epidaurian priest of Asclepius during the 5th century BC.
Biography[]
Panayiotis Xenos was born in Epidaurus, Argolis, Greece in 465 BC, and he became a priest of Asclepius at the Sanctuary of Asclepius. In 431 BC, Panayiotis had to deal with a large influx of plague-afflicted Athenians during the first year of the Peloponnesian War, and he asked the mercenary Kassandra to help him by locating and subduing a white bull at Mount Koryphum so that she could sacrifice it to the gods in order to pray for the afflicted. Kassandra brought back the bull's heart, as it had already been killed, but Panayiotis told her that the heart was only worth one prayer, and she decided to use the prayer on the sickly child Afroditi Rega out of sympathy. Panayiotis then revealed that the priest Mydon would know about the mysterious Spartan woman who Kassandra was searching for, assisting Kassandra in her search.
