Distribution of the Turkic peoples
Pan-Turkism is a nationalist ideology that advocates the political and cultural unity of all Turkic peoples. The ideology originated among Azerbaijani intellectuals during the 1880s, and it served as a response to Pan-Slavism, Pan-Germanism, and Pan-Iranism. The ideology was one of the motivations behind the Armenian Genocide, the Assyrian Genocide, and the Greek Genocide during World War I, and the MHP party supports the ideology.
