Palekana

Palekana is an animistic new religious movement based in the US state of Hawaii, with strong influences from native Hawaiian religion. The Palekana faith worshipped the volcano goddess Nele (an altered version of the Hawaiian goddess Pele) and revered fire, and the movement was taken over by former hitman Bryce Fairchild in 1953. Fairchild assassinated members of the Mililani lineage to keep his illegitimately obtained role as Sage a secret, and his cult won support from marginalized groups in Honolulu and other parts of the state. Palekana came to wield tremendous political and economic influence in the city, utilizing this strength to coerce the Barracudas, Ganzhe, and Yamai Syndicate into becoming the cult's muscle. Fairchild also made a deal with Bleach Japan leader Masataka Ebina to employ ex-yakuza at a toxic nuclear waste disposal site on his sect's private Nele Island, where they would inevitably suffer radiation poisoning; Fairchild would profit from their slave-like labor, and Bleach Japan would slowly kill off the yakuza. In 2023, Fairchild attempted to track down his former disciple Akane Kishida, who was sheltering the 10-year-old Lani Mililani, leading to Palekana making enemies with Akane's long-lost son Ichiban Kasuga and his party. Fairchild's machinations were ultimately exposed and he was arrested and deposed as Sage of Palekana.
