Palatinate-Neuburg was a state of the Holy Roman Empire that existed from 1505 to 1808, with Neuburg an der Donau serving as its capital. The principality was founded by a branch of the House of Wittelsbach, with the parts of Bavaria-Landshut located north of the Danube becoming "Palatinate-Neuburg". Palatinate-Neuburg joined the Protestant Union in 1608, and the duchy was invaded by France in 1800 during the War of the Second Coalition of the French Revolutionary Wars. In 1808, the duchy was abolished, and it was succeeded by the Palatinate.
