Knossos Palace

The Palace of Knossos is a ruined Minoan palace located in the Ancient Greek city of Knossos (present-day Heraklion) on the Greek island of Crete. The palace was built in 1900 BC, and it served as the residence of King Minos and the location of the Labyrinth of Lost Souls, where the mythical Minotaur was kept until he was slain by Theseus in 1293 BC. The city declined in the wake of a socio-political collapse around 1200 BC, and the palace fell into ruin. However, the site of the Palace of Knossos was rediscovered in 1878, and excavations began in 1900.
