The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is a social democratic political party in Pakistan that was founded on 30 November 1967 by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and led by the Bhutto and Zardari families. The PPP supported public ownership, equality, and strong national defense, with the southern province of Sindh being its power base. In 1970, 1977, 1988, 1993, and 2008, the PPP won elections, and it was once regarded as the most important political party in the country before Bhutto's execution by Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq's dictatorship. The PPP lost the 2013 elections, but it retained control over Azad Kashmir and Sindh.
