
Ozzie Walls (born 1939) was the Madison County, Mississippi sheriff during the 1980s.
Biography[]
Ozzie Walls was born in Canton, Madison County, Mississippi in 1939, and he became a member of the Madison County Sheriff's Department. He later became sheriff, and he was beloved by the black community and respected by the white community. In 1984, he arrested the white supremacist rapists Billy Ray Cobb and Pete Willard after they beat and raped the 10-year-old African-American girl Tonya Hailey, and he later arrested Hailey's father Carl Lee Hailey for murdering the two rapists. After Hailey was acquitted, Walls took part in the arrests of Klansman Freddie Lee Cobb and the corrupt policeman Willie Hastings, who was a member of the Klan.
