Owen Tudor

Owen Tudor (1400-2 February 1461) was a Welsh courtier and the grandfather of Henry VII of England, founder of the Tudor dynasty of England.

Biography[]

Owen Tudor was born in Anglesey, Wales in 1400, descended from a long family of civil servants from Gwynedd. He became an esquire of King Henry V of England, and he later married Henry's widow Catherine of Valois. In 1439, King Henry VI of England appointed him Keeper of the King's Parks in Denbigh. During the Wars of the Roses, he served in his son Jasper Tudor's army, and he was captured at the Battle of Mortimer's Cross and beheaded at Hereford.
