Outerbridge Horsey (5 March 1777-9 June 1842) was a US Senator from Delaware from 12 January 1810 to 3 March 1821, succeeding Samuel White and preceding Caesar Augustus Rodney. He was a Federalist Party member.
Biography[]
Outerbridge Horsey was born in Sussex County, Delaware in 1777, and he studied law under James A. Bayard, who became his lifelong political mentor. He served in the State House from 1801 to 1803 and served as Delaware Attorney General from 1806 to 1810. In 1810, following the death of US Senator Samuel White, Horsey was elected to the Senate, and he served until 1821. He supported the Missouri Compromise, and the unpopular Horsey retired in 1821. He died in 1842.
