The Ouchi clan was one of the most important and powerful families in Japan during the reign of the Ashikaga Shogunate who descended from the Korean nation of Paekche. During the Genpei War they were allied with the Yashima Taira against the Kamakura Minamoto and fought a war against them that cost them their daimyo Ouchi Nakasada in battle in 1187. They supported the Ashikaga in the wars between the Northern and Southern Courts, and they remained in power until the 1560s, when they were surpassed by their Mori vassals. In the Battle of Miyajima in 1557, the Ouchi were finall destroyed.
