Ottavio da Ostiano (1368-1430) was a condotierro in the service of Asola and Bozzolo. He later betrayed both and took over Asola, Ostiano, and Gambara.
Biography[]
Ottavio da Ostiano was born in the town of Ostiano, but later moved to serve under Asola as a mercenary. In 1395 he stole 100,000 florins from his master in order to fund his own career elsewhere, and he became his own master. In 1405 he assassinated rival condotierro Dante da Piadena and stole his men, and conquered Gambara. The House of Ostiani became the rulers of the city, and Ostiano expanded his rule to include Ostiano. Ostiano founded his own fief, and defended it against foreign interests. Mantua conquered his domains in 1430, and Ostiano died of mortal wounds at the age of 62.
