Ota Shigetsune

Ota Shigetsune (1835-June 1867) was a Japanese general in the service of the Wakayama Domain during the Boshin War. He served as a sub-commander of Kishu Munehide's army in Kii Province during the 1860s, and he fought alongside his lord at the 1867 Battle of Matsusaka, during which Munehide was killed. Shigetsune succeeded Munehide as daimyo of the Wakayama Domain, taking command of the remnants of Munehide's army and continuing to lead it in an invasion of Ise Province. He was killed and his army destroyed at the Battle of Kihoku in June 1867.
