Oswald Dunbar (1833-) was the police chief of Blackwater, Texas during the 1890s and 1900s. He retired in 1907 after decades of service.
Biography[]
Oswald Dunbar was born in 1833, and he later settled in Galveston County, Texas and became the police chief of Blackwater during the late 19th century. He served as police chief for decades, and he was highly popular among the town's residents, as he was respectful and kind. In 1898, he hired the Arizona Kid to hep him capture the conman Kyle Loach, whom his deputy Clint Preston had inadvertently let escape, and Arizona delivered Loach to Dunbar on the back of his horse; Dunbar then oversaw his hanging. In 1907, he hired John Marston and Sadie Adler to bring in the wanted criminals Elias Green and Otis Skinner, paying them in cash. He retired later that year.
