Osvaldo Hurtado (26 June 1939-) was President of Ecuador from 24 May 1981 to 10 August 1984, succeeding Jaime Roldos Aguilera and preceding Leon Febres Cordero.
Biography[]
Osvaldo Hurtado was born in Chambo, Ecuador in 1939. He became a renowned political scientist before becoming involved with the center-left Christian Democratic Union political party. In 1979, he was elected Vice President of Ecuador as Jaime Roldos Aguilera's running mate, and he succeeded Roldos on his death in a plane crash in 1981. Hurtado served out the rest of his term, leaving office in 1984.
