Osama al-Abidi (died 25 September 2015), also known as Abu Abdullah al-Libi, was an Islamic State leader during the Syrian Civil War.
Biography[]
Osama al-Abidi was born in Libya to a Sunni Muslim family, and he was a veteran jihadist. al-Abidi fought in the Iraq War against the United States after crossing into Iraq from Syria, but Bashar al-Assad's government arrested him and deported him back to the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, where Muammar Gaddafi had him arrested for three and a half years. al-Abidi proceeded to take part in the Libyan Revolution of 2011, being one of the most important jihadist leaders of the uprising, and he headed to Syria to continue the jihad during the Syrian Civil War. al-Abidi became the emir of al-Dana after pledging allegiance to the Islamic State, and he was assassinated by Free Syrian Army gunmen on 25 September 2015 in Bab al-Hawa, Idlib Governorate.
