Osama El-Gendi

Osama El-Gendi (18 January 1953-) was Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Navy from 14 August 2012, succeeding Mohab Mamish.

Biography[]

Osama El-Gendi was born in Egypt in 1953, and he graduated from the Alexandria naval academy in 1973 and served aboard a frigate during the Yom Kippur War. In 2012, President Mohamed Morsi dismissed Vice Admiral Mohab Mamish as commander of the Egyptian Navy and appointed El-Gendi in his stead; El-Gendi remained in that post under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, while also serving on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
