The Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) is an Oromo national liberation movement that has been active in Ethiopia since 1973. The OLF was established by Oromo nationalists to promote self-determination for the Oromo people against "Abyssinian colonial rule", coordinating the Oromo resistance after 70 years of warfare between the Oromo and the Amharas. The OLF was once headquartered in Khartoum, Sudan, allying with the Sudanese government against Ethiopia (under the monarchy, the communist government, and the democratic government), Somalia, the Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization, the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, and the Sudan People's Liberation Army. In 1991, it had 60,000 members, and it was proscribed as a terrorist group by the Ethiopian government. The OLF would later move its base of operations to Asmara, Eritrea, with the Eritrean government using the OLF as its proxy in its proxy war with Ethiopia.
