Orla Fry was an Irish immigrant to the United States and the mother of US Army Cadet Leroy Fry. She settled in Kentucky, and her son received admittance to the West Point military academy, only to be murdered and desecrated in 1830. At his funeral, Fry gave the detective Augustus Landor her son's journal, which had been sent to her by her son's friend Randolph Ballinger; Landor used the journal to discover that Ballinger, like Fry, had raped his daugher Mattie Landor.
