Orestes Silvanus (395-430) was the self-proclaimed Augustus of the Western Roman Empire.

Biography[]

Orestes Silvanus was a Christian Roman born in Syracuse, weak-chinned and a poor farmer. However, he was publicly loyal and had an understanding of logistics, and he was steadfast before the banner of the Western Roman Empire that usurped power from the true emperor Avitus the Cunning

Silvanus based in Syracuse in Sicily, the new capital of the Western Roman Rebels after the fall of Rome in 402 AD. However, in 430 AD he was besieged in the city by an expeditionary army of the Eastern Roman Empire and was killed alongside Governor Glycerius Silvanus.
