Orderic Vitalis (1075-1142) was a monk of the Benedictine Order from England who composed the Historia Ecclesiastica during the Middle Ages. He was called an "honest and trustworthy guide to his times" by American historian C. Warren Hollister. However, he did have some biased views; he once wrote, "Set out on pilgrimage and triumph gloriously over the infidels in the East", referring to the Crusades against the Muslims.
