The Oplot Brigade, also called the 5th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, was a brigade of the DPR Armed Forces and the Russian Army that was formed in 2014. Originally a battalion, it expanded into a brigade in September 2014 under the leadership of Alexander Zakharchenko. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the brigade fought at the Battle of Izium and committed war crimes against Ukrainian civilians. In January 2023, it was incorporated into the Russian Army as part of the 51st Combined Arms Army. Its commander Pavel Y. Klimenko was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in November 2024.
