Operation Violent Winds (14 June 1969) was a CIA Black Ops operation that targeted a Soviet power station in the Russian SFSR at the height of the Cold War. A team of Black Ops operatives under Andrew Scherler was sent to destroy the Soviet power grid in order to power down Soviet air defense systems nearby, which would sabotage the USSR's ability to prevent further CIA raids. The Black Ops operatives engaged in shootouts with the Spetsnaz operatives around the base, and the Black Ops team shot down a Soviet counter-spy plane during the fighting. The Americans failed in their objective, however, as they suffered heavy losses and were forced to abort the mission.
