Operation Verano was the name given to the Cuban government's 1958 summer offensive against the 26th of July Movement rebels in the Sierra Madre during the Cuban Revolution. The offensive was designed to crush the rebels, but the offensive was met with resistance at La Plata and Las Mercedes. The operation failed in its objective, and the failure of the offensive left the Cuban army dispirited and demoralized. Castro viewed it as a victory and launched his own counter-offensive.
