Operation Ramadi Dawn (19-20 April 2006) was a US Marine Corps operation to clear the city of Ramadi of insurgents during the Iraq War. The operation saw heavy fighting for the streets of Ramadi and the houses, and the Americans were successful in clearing Ramadi of the insurgents.
History[]
In April 2006, the US Marine Corps launched a large-scale military operation to free the city of Ramadi from Iraqi insurgent forces, which included Ba'athists as well as Salafist militants. The marines engaged the insurgents in close-quarters urban warfare on both the streets and in houses, and the fighting left many dead on both sides. The Americans faced some of the toughest fighting that month in their Ramadi Dawn operation, and many American soldiers were injured during the fighting. However, they achieved their goal of whittling down the amount of terrorists still active in Ramadi, killing over 100 insurgents in a successful operation.
