Operation Marcos

Operation Marcos (25 April 1968) was a covert operation undertaken by Operation 40 Cuban exiles against the Tropas in the capital city of Havana. The raid was successful in killing 75 Cuban troops.

History[]

With assistance from the United States' Central Intelligence Agency, Operation 40 decided to launch an attack on the Cuban capital of Havana to continue their campaign against Fidel Castro's government. The Op 40 members assembled a team of 75 resistance members, all of them CIA-trained, and they attacked the Cuban militia in the capital. There were street and house-to-house fights in the capital as the militia and the rebels fought each other, and the CIA provided air support for napalm strikes in addition to mortar strikes. Op 40 succeeded in the operation, killing 75 Tropas while suffering 48 losses. The operation was kept highly classified by the CIA due to their involvement in Cuban affairs, while the Cuban government hid it from the public due to the fear that could be spread.
